Starredreviews.com was an old website that had reviews of some notebooks and electronic gadgets and it used to get some traffic. In March 2010 it was decided that we can do something serious about it by writing about latest notebooks and future cars.
Starting from April 2010, a huge number of reviews were written, which included latest notebook, camera, cars, LCD TVs and others. The greatest initial success was with the camera and cars. The 2011 cars were yet be launched and a large number of reviews centered around 2011 cars – for example 2011 Honda Civic, 2011 Toyota Corolla. These reviews were instant hit as people started looking for the launch of the next year cars. Traffic started picking up. By June 2010 the traffic crossed 2000 daily visits.
Sometimes around this period the idea of international version struck and based upon the number of the people speaking different languages, five new languages were started – Spanish, Japanese, French, Portguese and German.
Starredreviews.com/se
Starredreviews.com/jp
Starredreviews.com/fr
Starredreviews.com/pt
Starredreviews.com/de
The most successful among these were Spanish and Japanese. This was followed by Portguese, French and German in that order. The traffic from the sites other than English was roughly half the traffic from the main site. Somehow the German website did not pick up the traffic.
An SEO expert was hired who skillfully built the links for some of the key webpages for starredreviews.com which further increased the traffic on the website.
By January 2011, the traffic surged to over 10,000 a day on the main site and over 5,000 a day on the international versions.
On February 24, 2011 the traffic of the website roughly reduce to one half as the new google algorithm, nicknamed “Google Panda” struck. While the non English site was not affected, the main site was the main source of income and it was seriously affected.
The articles were written by different article writers and the quality of the articles were far from perfect. The organization of the articles and interlinking was not perfect, even though a related articles plugin was installed. Obviously starredreviews.com was a candidate fit to be categorized at “Content Farm”. Its pages did not command authority even though they ranked higher in the search engine.
The number of pageviews per visit when the google panda it was around 1.27. The bounce rate at around 84% means that starredreviews was not retaining the readers. The average time spent on the site was abysmally low at 44 seconds.
Since February 25, 2011 some serious work was started on improving the quality of the site with an attempt to improve the overall quality of the website. By the first week of April, 2011 – the Pageviews per visit improved from 1.27 to 1.49. The average time spent on site improved from 44 seconds to 1` minute 2 seconds. The bounce rate decreased from 84% to 77%.
Translators were hired to correct the automatically translated pages. Only the pages that were bringing higher traffic were taken up in first round. The results were found to be encouraging..
Starredreviews.com is still far from perfect. It is still under the grip of Panda clutches. However, it is moving in the right directions.

In conventional terms Guerilla marketing refers to the unconventional means to get customers for a product or service. There is absolutely no reason why Guerilla marketing can not be applied to the Online sphere. Here are some marketing ideas that you can try. Each website is unique, but some of these tricks can definitely apply to your site.

-	Shut down your website for couple of hours. The ask the question on all the forums and facebook groups – Any idea when the xyz wil be back. Make sure when people search with xyz the website in question comes to top. Example – shut down the minifreelance.com and ask – when will minifreelance be back. And when the website is back, reply to the question, bumps up the thread and more visits. Notice that you may not apply this trick, if your website is already getting a large number of traffic. The loss in traffic will not justify that additional traffic you may be getting.

-	If your website is coming on the top of a particular search term ask question everywhere around that topic. You can check for the terms for which your site is coming on the top of the google using Google Analytics. Make sure that the answer is not easy or trivial and forces people to search in google for answer for that question. Ask that question in yahoo answers and elsewhere in all related forums.

-	Visit internet café or any other public computer and set the homepage of the computer as your webpage. The best type of homepage that works is the one with news item that any one can read.

-	Write an ebook and inside the illustrations in the ebook, sprinkle a large number of links pointing to your website. The links can point to the calculators, examples around your website. You can have some quiz and question answers, with the solution and the answers pointing to your website.

-	Always keep a pack of business card with you with your website address being the most prominent on your business card. People may go back and check your website. This is especially important if you are visiting a conference.

-	Leave the url of a webpage that you like in all the emails signature. It should be an inspirational and should fit for everyone who may be reading the email. Add a catchy line on the url. Do not be shy in exposing yourself.

-	In the answering machine of your phone leave a message like – Leave your number, I will call you back, you may check my latest status on twitter at twitter.com/minifreelance

-	In facebook, if you have something to write, write it first on your block and then just point a link to your blog on facebook instead of writing directly on the facebook.

-	If you receive any email that is informative and contains pack of knowledge and is not published elsewhere convert it to a blog by copy pasting it on your blog.

-	If you have a popular blog, create different language version of it. Start quickly by using Automated translation from google. As the traffic picks up, hire a translator and get all the high traffic pages translated manually. The pages that get zero traffic may be left.

-	If your website has a sign up page, include a functionality to import friends in your contact and send them a message.

Each website is different. These ideas will stir your mind to think something different for your case.

Tips for Making Money Online – Forum Posting

Forum posting is not a very high paying job but it is not a bad idea to get paid for what you could be doing any way. All of us visit different forums, facebook and read and post something or other almost every day. So why not get paid for the activity that we are doing anyway.

You will have to contact webmaster or the other way round to get started. There are many different websites including forums.digitalpoint.com where you can apply for the forum posting works advertised in the job posts. Typical pay rates vary from $0.10 to $0.50 per post depending upon the kind and quality of the posts.

A list of places where you can get forum posting jobs
-	forums.digitalpoint.com
-	elance.com, freelancer.com, odesk.com

Notice that you may have to compete with the forum posters from low paying countries including India, Philippines and Bangladesh. If you are from US you may have the edge in terms of you ability to post on the local topics. If you can get paid of $0.50 per post and if you can post 10 messages a day in an hour you get $5 an hour which may not be too bad considering you will have spent that time in surfing anyway.

Tips and Caution

1.	Forum posting is not the best way to make money unless you are in low geographic location.
2.	Do not accept forum posting job if the per hour monetary return does not make sense.
3.	It may be a good idea to get paid for forum posting if it matches your interest and you will enjoy replying to the relevant threads. For example if you read and know a lot about celebrities, it may be a good idea to get paid for writing on a forum that is around Celebrities.

#1 Tips for making money online with Google Adsense

When it comes to making money online nothing beats Google Adsense. The idea is relatively simple to grasp. You have a website that provides some useful content or online solution for the readers and its users. You collaborate with google which, automatically detects the kind of content on your page by grouping the words that are used in the webpage. It then places the advertisements matching with the content of the webpage. Typically 1% of the visitors click on the advertisement. So if your webpage gets 1000 traffic daily, you may expect 10 clicks on the Google Adsense. Google typically earns $1 on each advertisement click and keeps 35% with itself and gives you rest of the 65%. So, on a 1000 daily traffic you may expect to make $6.50 a day.
Do not quote me for this figure. This is a very general figure and the actual figure will vary depending upon the kind of the content you have. It will depend upon how much the advertiser is willing to pay. So, for example, a car company ( remember Ford, Toyota, Honda), which typically make $1000 or so on each car sale may be willing to pay more per click – like $2 a click, a book seller that earns $5 a book may be willing to pay only $0.50. My $1 a click is easy to remember and easy to calculate figure that does not vary much either way from the real figures.
Here are the steps involved if you wish to earn money from Google Adsense
1.	Register a Domain name from http://godaddy.com . It typically takes $10 to register a domain name for godaddy. You may like to search for some recent coupons and get deals to further reduce it to $7 a year. The fatwallet.com is a good forum that lists the recent coupons. Notice that not all coupons work good, you may have to do a hit an trial to see which one works.
2.	Take a web hosting service. The godaddy itself is a good place to take web hosting service. Hostgator is another one – slightly less expensive. If you take another website for hosting you will have to set the namesever in the godaddy so that it points to the Hostgator.
3.	The third step will depend upon what kind of content you want to have on your website. There may be different kind of ideas ranging from no complexity to moderately high complexity. If you have some programming background you can try out different ideas by taking some of the open source codes and modifying it to suite your idea. In simplest form an article writing content can be a good way to start that a programmer as well as a non programmer can do. All you need to do is install a wordpress on your hosting site, and you are ready to go. You will need to use a mysql database on your website to be able to start installing the wordpress. Once you have installed the wordpress, you may like to makes sure you take up some preliminary steps to ensure that the wordpress is useful for traffic and stays secure. Make sure that you set up the permalink in your wordpress correctly to make your wordpress SEO friendly.
Once you have installed WordPress, have some nice theme in the wordpress so that it looks attractive and different from other website. Install Adsense plugin so that you are able to add Adsense to your blog.
4.	Google Adsense may not approve your adsense account if your website is too new. In that case it may be a good idea to buy an old domain and apply for a Adsense.
5.	Once your Adsense is approved, Get the code for the Advertisement and insert it in the Adsense plugin. Your Ads should start displaying.

Tips and Cautions
1.	Never click on your ads and never ask your friends to click on it. Once your adsense it banned it is impossible to get is back for your lifetime. You risk to loose more that what you may potentially gain by few clicks.
2.	If your adsense is dependent upon content, keep the quality of the articles original and really very good. Do not copy contents and write about the things that you have expertise.
3.	Do not create multiple websites having same content. Google may ban it on charges of “cookie cutter” websites. Do not be greedy. Depend upon your hard work and quality of the content.
4.	Install Google Analytics plugin on your wordpress website and monitor the traffic. Pay special attention on the Bounce Rate and the time spent by readers on the website. The Bounce rate is the percentage of the readers that go away from your website after reading just one page. A bounce rate of 75% or higher is a bad sign. A bounce rate 50% or lower is a sign that people like your website. Also notice the time spent by visitors – if it is 1 minute or lesser it indicates poor website content.
5.	Use facebook and twitter to make the content of your website available to the persons you know. Write compelling content that people would love to share. Use infographics, tables, charts, data and numbers to prove your point.
6.	Do not engage into link building tactics that many people or Search Engine Optimization (SEO) persons suggest. Google may ban your website because of the black hat tricks and you will risk loosing more. Occasional and minimal link building on related forums may possibly be acceptable. For example if someone asks for a question about an Intel Processor architecture and you have already written an scholarly article about it, you may like to reply to the question on that forum with a link to your content.

There are a large number of different ways of making money online legitimately. Unfortunately, the information available on websites have been misleading. Most of the information available are for the profit of the writer or the blogger himself rather than for the reader. To set the record straight, we present you a set of 50 legitimate ways of making money online.

There are different ways and different techniques. Do not fall into the trap of get rich quick schemes.

MiniFreelance saw a record number of additional sign ups in the month of June 2011. With this, the total sign ups at the time of writing stands between 1400 to 1500.

There has been slow addition of the new jobs posted in Minifreelance, something that many Mini Freelancers have complained. We are tying up with many new firms and we assure you that in future you will start seeing a large number of new tasks posted regularly. In the meantime please keep coming back and keep checking if a new job is posted.

We have also almost completed the design of the new home page. We are now working on the redesign of the inner pages for improved functionality and better user interface.

We look forward to more users and as well as job posters coming and using this platform for their benefit.
